"The gardens are well tended and at least into the '40s provided a verdant and productive center to the Plaza. Serefina Vigil Martinez y sus hijas están lavando verduras al lado de una acequia en la esquina suroeste de la Plaza del Cerro. El muchacho sentado en la ventana tal vez sea su hijo. "Se cuidaban bien las hortalizas que por lo menos hasta los años 40 fueron un centro productivo y verdeante en la Plaza. Todos los que las vieron recuerdan bien su belleza."
